Bruno Fioretti Marquez - Re-construction of the Master’s house, a Walter Gropius building on the Bauhaus campus which was destroyed during the war. A decision was make to reconstruct the house, as the previous replacement was of no historic significance. The new structure is a clear nod to the original form of the Gropius house. Contemporary attributes, such as the smooth concrete finish, precise detailing, and dark-fogged flush-paned glass create a ghostly quality to the new building. Both historically referential and contemporary, the building creates a unique dialog with the conflicted history of the school’s campus. Via, photos (C) Christoph Rokitta.
